Studio Practice:

Emma Weldon began her journey into the word of art and design back in 2015, when she had decided to complete a portfolio preparation course in the Liberties college where they specifically focused on the NCAD brief, thus giving her the best chance possible of obtaining a place on the Joint BA Hons Degree in Fine Art & Education that they offered.

As long as weldon could remember she had a passion for all things creative, and from as young as the age of four ,her teachers would always comment on her abilities when it came to art. Throughout both primary and secondary school, Emma received countless awards for art as well as some for sports. And was chosen to participate in a short art course within BCFE, ending in an Exhibition which had taken place in the Ballyfermot community centre.

So in 2016 with the successful completion of her Portfolio course, Weldon was accepted onto her course of choice, where she strived to become not only a Glass Artists but an Educator of the arts. She has grown a lot during her time in NCAD, Not just professionally but Personally and is excited to start her new journey as an art teacher. In the near future Emma hopes to continue her studio practice along side her tecahing career and strives to integrate the two together.

Most Recent Work:

Emma Weldon’s research explores how education and art therapy may be engaged to assist in healing victims of human trafficking and modern day slavery. Slavery is a worldwide phenomenon, Weldon has emerged twenty-five forms of contemporary slavery that can now be found in the USA with a small percentages of victims ending up in Ireland. Weldon believes that any effort to create awareness around the misery of modern day slavery is a step forward to healing society. Weldon has identified several organizations, local schools, libraries and youth centers around the world, that have engaged artistic endeavours to assist victims in their healing and believes art-therapy should be a compulsory State service available in all educational settings to promote awareness and to prevent or to help victims to recover.

Her most recent exhibition titled “Exploited Existence” is a tribute to all the vulnerable children around the globe who are or have been affected by sexual exploitation, consisting of three different scene’s. These miniature set’s are designed to give each viewer an insight into the hidden agenda of many adults around the world known as human traffickers.
